When I was first starting out and doing research into what I would need to practice yoga, I felt a little lost. There are so many products out there, many of them very costly, that it feels overwhelming. I compiled a short list here of items that I personally found helpful when starting out, and things I still use today. I personally own these, and they are such a helpful tool if you’re having any problems with balance in certain poses. They are also very comfortable.

This was written by B.K.S Iyengar himself and details not only the Asanas, but also the philosophy of Iyengar Yoga and the lifestyle that accompanies it.
4. Balance From GoYoga 1/2 Yoga Mat
This is my current personal mat, and it is my favorite one that I’ve ever owned. It’s durable, it’s easy to keep clean, and it’s super comfortable.
5. Gaiam Essentials Yoga Block 2 Pack & Yoga Strap Set
Blocks and straps are a fantastic tool to have when you’re beginning your yoga practice. They are incredibly helpful in getting into poses that you may not be able to without them, and I love my yoga strap for helping to warm my muscles up.

If you’re working towards or working on Inversion poses, this seems like an absolutely ideal tool to have.

When I first started getting into yoga, I received this as a gift from my fiancé. It’s so great for beginners, and honestly, anyone, who practices yoga. It has a really nice mat with a carrying strap, two blocks, a knee mat, a yoga strap, and two towels. This set is perfect for someone just starting out.
10. REEHUT Yoga Wheel for Back Pain
This is great for massaging out any sore muscles in your back or shoulders, and also helps you improve your flexibility. This would also be helpful if you’re working on beginning backbends.
11. The Yoga Anatomy Coloring Book
I love this because it’s going to educate you on exactly which muscles you’re working in certain asanas, and possibly help you know what correct form should feel like.
